Australia allows online application from Indians for visitor’s visa

New Delhi:The Australian government on Monday announced that Indian nationals can apply for a visitor visa online starting from July 1. Australia's Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Alex Hawke, said the online application option would make applying for the country's visitor visas easier and enhance the experience for Indians.
Online lodgement for visitor visa applications is a significant enhancement that will benefit Indian applicants seeking to visit Australia as tourists or business visitors,or those wanting to reconnect with family and friends," Hawke said.

Unabated violence in Bengal hills as one killed in Darjeeling

New Delhi: Violence continued unabated in the hills of West Bengal with one person was killed and 35 security personnel injured on Saturday as the region witnessed widespread clashes between GorkhaJanmuktiMorcha (GJM) activists and the police. West Bengal ADG (law and order) Anuj Sharma said in Kolkata that this was the first death since violent protests returned to Darjeeling on June 8.

The indefinite shutdown to press for a separate Gorkhaland entered the fourth day on Sunday.

Govt mulling law to bring eunuch into mainstream

New Delhi:Union Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot said that Centre was contemplating a law for eunuchs which would be enacted by the end of this year. The Social Justice and Empowerment minister said the government has taken a decision to enact a law for eunuchs for their welfare. 
He said this while speaking at a programme in Jaipur. Gehlot said the law will help in bringing eunuchs in the mainstream society and benefits of various schemes and programmes will reach them.

Number of post offices doubling up as passport centres rise to 235

New Delhi:Getting the passport may have become just a wee bit more easier. The Government has announced the opening of 149 more new Post Office Passport SevaKendras in the second phase. External Affairs Minister SushmaSwaraj made this announcement on Saturday. With this addition, the total number of such Kendras will be 235 in the country.

At present, 52 Post Office Passport SevaKendras are operational. The Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Posts are working closely for the operationalization of passport related services at the remaining 34 such Kendras in the first phase.

Train services suspended in South Kashmir following prevailing tension

New Delhi: Following tense situation prevailing in Kashmir Valley the train services in the area has been suspended. Anantnag and adjoining areas in south Kashmir were reported tense after the gunning down of two terrorist following encounter between holed up terrorists and security forces in Arwani village of Bijbehara in Anantnag district. Police said the body of a terrorist has been recovered from debris in Arwani village and his identity was being ascertained.
