Darjeeling remains tense as talks with Gorkhas deferred

New Delhi:An uneasy calm and uncertainly prevails across the Darjeeling Hills as the BimalGurung led GorkhaJanmuktiMorcha (GJM) sponsored indefinite strike entered the eighth day on Tuesday. The bandh has also cut-off land contact with neighbouring state of Sikkim.

According to media reports, National Highway -10 from Siliguri to Sikkim has been blocked by Gorkhaland activists. A large number of supporters are protesting near RangpoBridge and one loaded truck has been torched near Kalijhora. The GJM is demanding statehood for Gorkhas in West Bengal's northern districts.

Mangalyaan completes 1000 days in orbit, in good health, says ISRO

New Delhi:Indian Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) also called Mangalyaan completes 1000 Earth days in its orbit today. The interplanetary mission of ISRO was launched on 5th November, 2013. It was inserted into Martian orbit on 24th September, 2014 in its first attempt.  
The Mars Orbiter Mission credited with many laurels like cost-effectiveness, short period of realisation, miniaturisation of five heterogeneous science payloads completed 1000 Earth days which corresponds to 973.25 Martian Solar day.

Bank meet in Mumbai today to decide against first six bank defaulters named by RBI

New Delhi: The leading bankers are meeting in Mumbai on Monday to finalise the action on six of the 12 bad loan accounts for immediate referral to National Company Law Tribunal, NCLT, after the RBI named the largest defaulters to face bankruptcy proceedings. Last week, the RBI's internal advisory committee had sent the list of 12 accounts to bankers for immediate reference under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.

Govt revises date for filing GST returns for first two months; new regime rollout on time

New Delhi: The GST Council on Sunday relaxed return filing rules for businesses for the first two months of the rollout of the new indirect tax regime. Briefing media at meeting of the council in New Delhi, Finance Minister ArunJaitley said, to obviate any lack of preparedness, a slight relaxation of time for two months has been given and from September, strict adherence to time will go on.

Serving colonel posted in Eastern Command arrested by CBI for bribery

New Delhi:The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Colonel of Planning and Engineering Branch of Indian Army, Eastern Command, Kolkata and three others including Managing Director, Director and a representative of Private Company based at Pune in an alleged bribery of Rs 50000. The agency had registered a case against Colonel and three others u/s sections of IPC and various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
