Farmers’ agitation: MP remains tense though bandh passes off peacefully

New Delhi:Situation in western Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday remained tense though under control especially in curfew bound Mandsour district, where Six people were killed in the violence during farmers agitation on Tuesday.

The situation at PipliyaMandi remained volatile after cremation of a youth who was killed in Tuesday’s firing. People set a shop and a factory ablaze on Wednesday. The Mansour district administration has stopped leaders of different political parties from entering in the district.

Met dept upgrades Monsoon forecast, estimates near 100 per cent rainfall

New Delhi:  India Metrological Department, IMD has upgraded its earlier normal monsoon forecast from 96 per cent to 98 percent of the Long Period Average. Briefing media in New Delhi on Tuesday on the second forecast of Southwest Monsoon rainfall, Director General of IMD, K J Ramesh said, quantitatively, the monsoon rainfall from June to September is likely to be 98 per cent, plus minus four per cent. 

Last year, IMD had forecast that rainfall in June to September would be 106 per cent which is above normal, but the actual rainfall was around 97 per cent.The IMD official said, distribution of rainfall would be good across the country.

Death toll in Mandsour’s farm violence rises to six, MP bandh today

New Delhi:The death toll in the violent incidents during farmers agitation in Mandsour district of Madhya Pradesh has risen to six. The administration has claimed that firing was not done by the police.

The administration claimed that now the situation was under control. According to media reports, elaborate security arrangements had been made in the entire state especially in western Madhya Pradesh in the wake of a statewidebandh called Wednesday by some farmers organistions and opposition parties.

Congress, BJP in a wrangle on effects of demonetization

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said that the government's experiments and policies were characterized by poor planning and implementation. Addressing the Congress Working Committee meeting in morning in New Delhi, Gandhi said, "Till today the government has refused to disclose how much demonetised currency in circulation was actually returned to the banks."

NDTV promoters' premises searched on the basis of warrant issued by court, says CBI

New Delhi: Following the hue and cry raised over the raids on the residences of NDTV promoters Prannoy and Radhika Roy, CBI on Tuesday said it fully respects the freedom of press and is committed to the free functioning of news operations. It said, denigrating the allegations at the stage of investigation and wrongly accusing the agency of acting under pressure is uncalled for and is an attempt to malign its image. 

In a statement on the raids on promoters of NDTV, CBI clarified that searches were carried out at the premises of NDTV and their offices based on search warrants issued by the Court.
