
New Delhi:The death toll in the violent incidents during farmers agitation in Mandsour district of Madhya Pradesh has risen to six. The administration has claimed that firing was not done by the police.
The administration claimed that now the situation was under control. According to media reports, elaborate security arrangements had been made in the entire state especially in western Madhya Pradesh in the wake of a statewidebandh called Wednesday by some farmers organistions and opposition parties.
Farmers agitation took violent turn in Mandsour district the agitating farmers set ablaze several vehicles. In the firing which followed at Pipaliamandia, six farmers died and two were injured.
Curfew has been imposed in Pipaliamandi and some other parts of the district to control the situation. Internet services have been stalled in Mandsour, Neemuch and some other places. A judicial inquiry has been ordered into the whole incident.
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced an ex-gratia of one crore rupees each to the relatives of deceased farmers and five lakhs to the injured. He said that a government job will also be offered to a family member of each deceased.
Farmers in several parts of the state are on strike from first of this month. Their demands include right prices for their produces.
