Samson got an extended run in the ODI team in 2022 and has an impressive record in the format having made a total of 330 runs in 11 matches with an average and strike-rate of 66.00 and 104.76. Samson showed during the time the senior's were absent from the team that he is the perfect for the 'finisher's' job.

However, he has not been picked in any of the ODI squad in 2023 despite Rishabh Pant's absence with KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan being the chosen wicket-keepers while Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer have taken the middle order spots.
