Denis Shapovalov was the better player and the scoreline fails to suggest the quality of the 22-year-old Canadian, world number one Novak Djokovic has said about his Friday's opponent.

Novak Djokovic defeated the world number twelve 7-6(3), 7-5, 7-5 in the 2nd men's singles to set up a final clash versus Italy's Matteo Berrettini, who won the first semi-final by beating Poland's Hubert Hurkacz earlier in the day.

Shapovalov failed to serve out the first set at 5-4 and then failed to capitalise on 5 break points in 2nd set. He could win only one out of 11 break points opportunities. Even in the third set Shapovalov continued shooting from the hip but eventually his fire blew out as Djokovic claimed one of the toughest straight sets wins of his Wimbledon career.

"I don't think the scoreline says enough about the performance and the match, he was serving for the first set, he was probably a better player for most of the second set, had many chances, I would like to give him a big round of applause for everything he has done today and these few weeks.

This has been his first semi-final at a Grand Slam and you could see he was emotional and we're going to see a lot of him in the future definitely. He's a great player," Djokovic said in the on-court interview after entering his 30th Grand Slam final.

Djokovic will now have the opprtunity to beat Berrettini and equal Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal's tally of 20 Grand Slams each. The Serbian ace stated that he is "privileged to make history in the sport".

Playing, I've said this so many times before, the most special tournament in the world on this court and there is no holding back, once you step out on the court, particularly at the later stages," adds Djokovic.

"The dream keeps going, that's all I can say. I'm trying to take out the maximum of my own abilities every single match and see what happens. Giving up is never an option."

"Particularly at this stage of my career, Grand Slams are everything, they're the four events that count the most in our sport and I've been very privileged to make history in the sport I truly love. I fills my heart every time I hear there is something on the line, it inspires and motivates me but at the same time I have to balance it with being present and in the moment and win only the next match. For me only one match exists in a few days and I'm going to try and not think about the 30th Grand Slam final."

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic produced his very best to outclass Denis Shapovalov in the Wimbledon 2021 men's singles semi-final on Friday, registering a hard-fought three-set win on Centre Court.

Top seed Djokovic, who was playing his 41st Grand Slam semi-final, beat the Canadian 10th seed Shapovalov 7-6, 7-5, 7-5 to reach his seventh final at the All England Club where he will take on Italian Ma
