#UnitedOpposition: Nitish Kumar Meets Rahul Gandhi, Kumaraswamy; Likely To Meet Arvind Kejriwal, Pawar Today

In a bid to unite the Opposition for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar on Monday met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Janata Dal (Secular) chief H D Kumaraswamy on Monday in the national capital. Amid the talks in political circles that the JD(U) leader may be the Opposition face to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the next General elections, Kumar is expected to meet several opposition leaders including NCP's Sharad Pawar, AAP's Arvind Kejriwal, CPI-M's Sitaram Yechury, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala on Tuesday.

Nitish Kumar, who recently dumped the BJP, is in Delhi to try bringing all Opposition parties together to take on the mighty BJP in the next parliamentary polls.

#Secularism: Supreme Court Issues Notice To EC, Govt On Parties Using Religious Names, Symbols

The Supreme Court Monday issued notice on a plea seeking cancellation of registration of political parties that use religious symbols or names of religions in their nomenclature.

A bench of Justices M R Shah and Krishna Murari sought the response of the central government and the Election Commission on the plea and fixed it for hearing on October 18. The court also allowed the petitioner, former Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board Chairman Syed Waseem Rizvi, to make the parties he contended were doing this party to the proceedings.

#Satellite: HAL-L&T Consortium Bags Rs 860-Crore Contract To Build Five PSLV Rockets

A consortium of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and L&T has won a Rs 860 crore deal from NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) to build five Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rockets over a period of four years.

After the techno-commercial evaluation of three bids, HAL-L&T consortium had emerged as the technically qualified and the L1 bidder to undertake end-to-end production of PSLV.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar retracted his earlier statement and said that he did not say that the BJP could be reduced to 50 seats. This latest turnaround came in relation to his remarks at the national executive meeting of his party, Janata Dal-United, on Saturday. He said that the BJP will not get more than 50 seats in the 2024 general elections.

On Sunday, amid a war of words over Nitish Kumar's assertion between JDU and BJP leaders, he retracted from his comments that he made during the national executive meeting.

Following the national council meeting of Janata Dal United on Sunday, journalists asked the Bihar CM regarding his comments on the BJP. However, CM Nitish Kumar said that he had never spoken about any number. Moreover, he appeared to be more focused on building opposition unity.

A controversy has erupted in the CPI-M after a national English daily on Sunday reported that the party has scuttled the chance of former Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja, winning the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2022.

An English daily on Sunday in a report stated that the CPI-M has scuttled the chance of KK Shailaja winning the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2022 and described it as second ‘historical blunder’ after turning down the Prime Ministership for veteran leader Jyoti Basu two decades ago.

The newspaper in its report said that Shailaja was chosen for the 64th Magsaysay Award for her commitment and service during the outbreak of Nipah and Covid-19 while serving as the Health Minister in Kerala.
