In a bid to unite the Opposition for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar on Monday met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Janata Dal (Secular) chief H D Kumaraswamy on Monday in the national capital. Amid the talks in political circles that the JD(U) leader may be the Opposition face to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the next General elections, Kumar is expected to meet several opposition leaders including NCP's Sharad Pawar, AAP's Arvind Kejriwal, CPI-M's Sitaram Yechury, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala on Tuesday.

Nitish Kumar, who recently dumped the BJP, is in Delhi to try bringing all Opposition parties together to take on the mighty BJP in the next parliamentary polls.

During his meeting with Gandhi, the Bihar chief minister is learnt to have discussed the strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and the possibility of forging an alliance of the like-minded parties.

Meanwhile, amid reports doing rounds that Kumar is attempting to project himself as the prime ministerial candidate in 2024, he rejected the speculations and called for Opposition unity and ruled out harbouring PM aspirations.

"If the opposition will get united, then a good atmosphere will be created. I have no desire and no aspiration (to become prime minister)," Kumar told mediapersons.

Kumar snapped ties with the BJP and formed a new government in Bihar by joining hands with Congress, RJD and Left.

Kumar's meetings with Opposition leaders comes days after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao visited Bihar and held discussions on the political scenario in the country.

During a press conference, when KCR was asked whether Opposition will announce Nitish Kumar as the PM candidate for the opposition in 2024 LS polls, Rao evaded a direct response saying that the political parties will sit together and then finalise the candidate.
