Section 149 reads, "Every police officer may interpose to prevent, and shall, to the best of his ability, prevent, the commission of any cognisable offence. One needs to appear before the police after receiving this notice.

On Tuesday, MNS chief Raj Thackeray issued a three-page statement on social media. "I appeal to all Hindus that tomorrow, on the 4th of May, if you hear the loudspeakers blaring with azan; in those very places, play the Hanuman Chalisa on the loudspeakers! That's when they will realise the hindrance of these loudspeakers!" his statement read.

Mumbai police have said that they have made all arrangements to maintain law and order in the city.

Thackeray in his statement also said that the law should be the same for everyone and Supreme Court directions should be followed by all.

Several MNS leaders and workers have already received notices and preventive action has also been taken against hundreds.
