PM Modi Announces Rs 2,350 Crore Package For Floods In North East

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced 2,350 crore rupees for the North East after holding a review meeting with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur on the flood situation with several North Eastern states in Guwahati on tuesday. DoNER minister Jitendra Singh and Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain also attended the meeting.

Talking to newspersons after the meeting, Assam Water Resource minister Keshab Mahanta said that 250 crore rupees have already been released for Assam for immediate rehabilitation measures. 

He said the Prime Minister announced two thousand crore rupees for flood affected North Eastern states for infrastructure development. 

The minister further said Mr. Modi has announced to set up a high- powered committee to study the permanent solution to Assam's flood problem for which 100 crore rupees would be given. The Prime Minister asserted that Assam’s problem is also the problem of the country and assured to take steps to convert problems into possibilities. 

Later, the Prime Minister also addressed the legislators of the NDA partners from Assam. The Assam government has submitted a memorandum to Mr. Modi on the flood, urging the Prime Minister to convert 5 thousand kilometres embankments into road cum embankment.
