Eminent citizens meet Rajnath, demand end to ‘targeting of Hindus’ in Bengal

New Delhi: A number of people, including retired Army generals, ambassadors and judges, have called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and sought his intervention to bring back normalcy in riot-affected areas in West Bengal.

ChanderWadhwa, a council member of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of India was among those who met Singh, said the violence in the state targeted Hindus.

The delegation included Justice (retd) S N Dhingra, former Delhi Commissioner of Police R S Gupta, former Sikkim DGP R K Handa, Delhi, Maj Gen (retd) DhruvKatoch and former ambassador VidyasagarVerma among others, he said.

They asked Singh to take appropriate action for quelling the violence.
The group accused the state government of suppressing information and said it was only through social media that people got to know about the violence.
