Ties with Pakistan not at the cost of ‘deep relations’ with India, says Putin

New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted on Thursday that Russia's trust-based relations with India will not be diluted by Moscow's growing ties with Pakistan and other countries. Describing India as one of its closest friends during an interaction with PTI, Putin said that there is no other country in the world that Russia has deep cooperation with in delicate areas such as missiles, and it benefits from cooperation with India.

Putin said, no matter where the threat of terrorism comes from, it is unacceptable and we will always support India in its fight against terrorism. Refusing to have any tight military relations with Pakistan, he said, Russia's relations with Pakistan will not have any impact on trade between India and Russia. The President said, both countries have a lot of context and mutual interests.

Appreciating Russian President Vladimir Putin's role in enhancing India-Russia ties, Prime Minister NarendraModi said, Defence is a key area where both countries can cooperate.Earlier, both leaders held talks on ways to improve entire gamut of bilateral relations.

India and Russia signed five agreements including construction of third stage of Kodankulam nuclear power plant along with credit protocol. Other agreements relate to granting access to rospatent experts to Indian digital library of traditional knowledge, promotion of export of precious stones and jewellry of India and cultural exchanges.

Prime Minister NarendraModi later in the day invited Russian Companies to explore the opportunities in India and collaborate with Indian industry. Addressing CEOs of important industries in St. Petersburg on Thursday evening, Modi said, trade, commerce, innovation and engineering are of immense importance in this era. Prime Minister said business community is an important link between both the countries.
