US accuses China of intercepting US Navy surveillance plane

1h

US officials alleged that a US Navy surveillance plane was intercepted by two Chinese fighter jets over the South China Sea.
Initial reports showed that US P-3 Orion surveillance plane was 240 km southeast of Hong Kong in international airspace when the Chinese aircraft carried out the unsafe intercept, they added.

One Chinese aircraft flew in front of the American plane, restricting its ability to manoeuvre. Confirming the incident, the Pentagon said two Chinese jets had carried out the intercept on Wednesday, saying it was unsafe and unprofessional.
In a statement, the Pentagon spokesman said the US continues to review the facts of this incident and will convey its concerns through appropriate channels with the Chinese government.
