Coconut Plant Regains Status Of Tree Courtesy Goa Assembly

New Delhi: The Goa Legislative Assembly has passed a bill which reclassifies coconut as a tree ensuring legal protection for it. The Assembly, on the last day of Monsoon session passed the Goa, Daman and Diu, Preservation of Trees Act, 1984 to regulate felling of coconut trees. 

Goa Forward Party, a partner in the Manohar Parrikar-led government, had promised to reclassify coconut as a tree. The previous Laxmikant Parsekar-led government had changed classification of coconut tree to a palm.

Arun Jaitley Slams Kerala Govt For Political Violence

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday held the CPI-M-led Left Front government of Kerala responsible for unleashing attacks on BJP-RSS workers. 

He was talking to newsmen after visiting the family of a RSS activist, killed by alleged CPIM workers. Jaitley said, whenever the LDF came to power, political violence in Kerala has always increased. 

The senior BJP leader reminded the Left Front government that it is their responsibility to ensure, those indulging in violence are brought to book.

Govt Keeping A Watch On Post-GST Prices, Says CBEC Chairperson

New Delhi: The government is closely monitoring daily price variations in over two dozen essential commodities - from wheat to tea - to check at early stage any abnormal movement in rates post GST rollout, CBEC Chairperson Vanaja Sarna said. In an interview, she said, prices have remained by-and-large under check post Goods and Services Tax implementation on July 1 and there has been no big instance of supply disruption. 

The roll out of the biggest tax reform since Independence has been "relatively smooth" with multi-layer monitoring and officers of the tax department have been working overtime to weed out major bottlenecks in the implementation, she said.

No Need For Government Employees To Visit Bank To Start Pension

New Delhi: There is no need for Central government employees to visit banks to start pension as their copy of the Pension Payment Order (PPO) will be handed over to them at the time of retirement, the Personnel Ministry has said.

Citing existing rules in this regard, the ministry, in a recent order issued to all central government departments, has said, “The pensioner is no longer required to visit the bank to activate the first payment of pension.”

The rules also provide for an undertaking to be submitted by the retiring government servants or pensioners to the disbursing banks before the commencement of their pensions.

Inform Cases Of Communicable Disease Onboard To ATC: DGCA

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Regulator DGCA has asked the pilot in command of a flight to promptly inform the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) in case anyone onboard has suspected communicable disease.

In a circular, Director General of Civil Aviation has said the requirement is being put in place to facilitate provision of medical equipment and personnel for the management of public health risk on arrival of aircraft.
