Chinese official says Bhutan acknowledges that Doklam is a Chinese area

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: A senior Chinese official said that Bhutan has acknowledged that the Doklam area where the Indian and Chinese troops are engaged in a standoff does not belong to it.

China's top diplomat on the boundary issue, Wang Wenli, told a visiting Indian media delegation that Bhutan has conveyed to Beijing through the diplomatic channels that the area of the standoff is not its territory.

She provided no evidence for the claim, which is at the complete variance with Bhutan's stated position and actions. Bhutan had protested to the Chinese government, accusing it of violating a bilateral pact after its troops tried to construct a road in the Doklam area on June 16.

Government Deactivates 11.4 Lakh PAN To Remove Duplication

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: The government has deleted or deactivated 11.4 lakh income tax permanent account numbers (PAN) to weed out duplication.

Under the law, an individual can have only one PAN and the government has over the years sought to weed out duplicate PANs but has found itself wanting. As a result, it has opted to link PAN with Aadhaar, a move that triggered controversy, too.

"Linkage of Aadhaar number into PAN database will allow a robust way of de-duplication as Aadhaar number is based on biometric attributes of fingerprints and iris images. Further, seeding of Aadhaar will allow the income tax department to weed out any undetected duplicate PANs.
