There Is No Drought-Like Situation: Govt

New Delhi: The government has asserted that there is no "drought-like situation" in the country as sowing is normal and satisfactory despite deficit in rainfall being reported from 95 districts.

"The current rainfall in first fortnight of September in many States will improve the situation. The yield is expected to be same as of last year. There is no drought like situation," the government said in a statement.

Southern Command chief says 'Doklam not last problem, Army cannot lower guard'

New Delhi: General Officer Commanding- in-Chief of the Pune-based Southern Command Lt. General P M Hariz has asserted that the Doklam problem was not the last of its kind and the Army cannot afford to lower its guard since it has been resolved.

"Our training in command and preparedness remains intact. It does not mean that we should let the guard down because the Dokalam issue has been resolved," he said in Bhopal after giving away 63 gallantry and distinguished service awards at an investiture ceremony of the Southern Command.

BSF Jawan From UP Meets Martyrdom In Jammu & Kashmir

New Delhi: In Jammu and Kashmir a BSF jawan was martyred as Pakistan's forces resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing in Arnia sector along the International Border in Jammu district today. BSF sources said that the Pakistan Rangers started unprovoked firing and shelling on Indian positions and civilian areas in Arnia sector around 1 am on Friday.

In the firing Constable Bijender Bahadur hailing from UP who was deployed at a forward post was injured seriously. The jawan succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. BSF troops guarding the border retaliated the firing and gave a befitting reply.The intermittently exchange of fire was still on.

Sharad Yadav Claims JD (U) Symbol Afresh Before EC

New Delhi: The Sharad Yadav faction of the JD(U) has  filed a fresh claim before the Election Commission for the party's symbol and sought four weeks' time to submit relevant documents.

The EC had on Tuesday refused to take cognizance of its previous plea citing lack of documents to support its assertion.

Arun Kumar Shrivastav, a close aid of Yadav and the party's general secretary before its president Nitish Kumar removed him from the post said that the party's national executive will meet in the national capital on Sunday.

India Submits Pleadings At ICJ In Kulbhushan Jadhav Case

New Delhi: India has submitted its written arguments, known as memorial, to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. 

"The written pleadings to ICJ in Jadhav case involving egregious violation of Vienna Convention on Consular Relations by Pakistan is in furtherance of our Application filed before Court on May 8," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.

On May 8, a team of lawyers lead by Harish Salve filed an application before the ICJ seeking the suspension of the death sentence awarded to Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav by the Courts in Pakistan.
