
New Delhi: In Tamil Nadu, the opposition parties led by the DMK have staged a statewide agitation against the medical admission qualifying test NEET on Wednesday. The DMK, the Left parties, the DPI, the IUML and the MMK took part in the protests.
In Tambaram near Chennai, the DMK working president MK Stalin participated in the demonstrations and said the BJP is running a proxy government in Tamil Nadu and charged that the NEET has been imposed on the students.
He sought to clarify that though the idea of NEET was initiated during the erstwhile UPA regime in which the DMK was a part, the DMK led Government in Tamil Nadu filed a case against it in the Madras High Court and secured a stay.
He also said the then state government led by Mr M Karunanidhi impleaded in the case on NEET in the Supreme Court in 2011 and recalled that the apex court then dismissed the test.
He said the recent death of the MBBS aspirant Anita demands justice for thousands of rural and poor students who are affected by the NEET.
