Nagpur Metro Trial Run Held

New Delhi: The trial run of the Nagpur Metro Rail was flagged off on Saturday by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. 
The run was conducted from Chinchbhuvan to the New Airport, covering a distance of 5.4 kms, 27 months after the work started. Mr Fadnavis said, the project will create 20,000 job opportunities and become an engine of economic growth. The total length of the metro route would be 38 kms.

Prime Minister Greets President On His Birthday

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has wished President Ram Nath Kovind on his birthday today. In a series of tweets, Mr Modi said, since his tenure began, Mr Kovind has endeared himself to the people of India through his simple and compassionate nature. 

The Prime Minister said, he has always found Mr Kovind to be sensitive towards the aspirations of 125 crore Indians, especially the poor and marginalised. Mr Modi wished the President a long and healthy life devoted to the service of the nation.

Rival AIADMK factions submit fresh affidavits to EC on symbol case

New Delhi: The two rival factions of the AIADMK have submitted fresh affidavits to the Election Commission (EC), making their respective claims over the party’s two leaves symbol.

The unified AIADMK made its submissions first with MLA C V Shanmugam, who was part of a delegation that went to the EC, claiming that affidavits from 95 per cent of party cadres supporting the merged faction were submitted.

According to a party leader, affidavits of 115 MLAs, 44 MPs, 52 district secretaries, 126 town secretaries and over 1,200 village secretaries from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Maharashtra and Puducherry, were submitted.

Sulkan Singh, UP Police Head, Gets Extension

New Delhi: Senior IPS officer Sulkhan Singh has been given a three-month extension as Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police. 
An order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said in New Delhi that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension for three months beyond the date of his superannuation, September 30, 2017.
Mr Singh is a 1980 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre.

Akhilesh Says BJP Govts Trying To Impose RSS Ideology On Varsities

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that the BJP governments, in the states and at the Centre, were trying to impose RSS ideology in universities leading to students’ unrest and anarchy in  the campuses.

Interacting with student leaders from various varsities, including the Jawaharlal Nehru University, the Delhi University and the Allahabad University, he said that ever since the BJP government has come to power at the Centre, the atmosphere in educational institutions has been spoiled."

"The reputation of universities has also been harmed," the former chief minister was quoted as saying during his interaction with the students leaders.
