International Day For Girl Child

New Delhi: Today is International Day of the Girl Child. On December 2011 the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution to declare 11th October as the International Day of the Girl Child to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.

On the occasion, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi will address a panel discussion on the Role of Sports in the Empowerment of Girls in New Delhi today.

Russian Jet Crashes In Syria, Crew Killed

New Delhi: In Syria, a Sukhoi military jet crashed while preparing for take off from Russia's Hmeimim base on Tuesday, killing the crew. 

The Su-24 plane rolled off the runway and broke up while accelerating for takeoff. The spokesman said, the plane's crew did not have time to eject and died.

UP Government Approves Digitalisation Of Land Maps

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved digitalisation of land maps. State power minister Shrikant Sharma said in Lucknow that the Cabinet, in a meeting presided by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, gave nod to digitalisation of land maps in 70 districts of the state. 

He said, Rs. 5.21 crore have been made available for the digitisation work. Mr Sharma said, the maps will be available online and help check malpractices in a big way.

The cabinet has also decided on one-time settlement of non-performing loans of farmers with cooperative banks.

Gujarat, Maharashtra Cut VAT On Petrol, Diesel

New Delhi: Petrol will be cheaper by 2 Rupees and diesel by 1 rupee per litre across Maharashtra after the state government reduced the value-added tax (VAT) on the fuels. 

Making the announcement about VAT reduction on petrol and diesel today, Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said, the revised rates will be applicable from Tuesday midnight. 

This comes as a huge relief for the people in the state with petrol prices close to 80 rupees per litre.

Rajnath Says Anti-India Forces Want To Weaken Its Economy

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has averred that anti-India forces which are unable to see its growing economy, want to weaken the country’s economic and strategic position.

The Union minister said India was emerging as the fastest growing economy and it was counted among the top 10 economies today.

The world has started "realising" that India would be among the top three economies by 2030 when the size of the country’s economy would touch USD 5 trillion as against the present USD 2 trillion, he said at a passing out parade of the Central Industrial Security Force at Arakkonam in Tamil Naidu (TN).
