Manmohan Singh To Visit Gujarat, Will Target GST, Note Ban

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will carry out a one-day campaign in Gujarat to target the Narendra Modi government on GST and demonetisation, ahead of upcoming assembly polls in Gujarat.

Singh will address a press conference on Tuesday at the Congress headquarters in Ahmedabad. He is likely to speak on the "ill-effects of a flawed GST" and "ill-advised demonetisation". 

He had earlier attacked the Centre on the two issues on which he is widely accepted as an authority.

Chinese Consul General Says India, Beijing Need To Be Confident To Make Things Work

New Delhi:  Chinese Consul General in Kolkata, Ma Zhanwu has asserted that India-China relations are not going to be a walk in the park, but the two nations need to have the confidence to make things work.

Speaking at the inaugural session to commemorate the 80th anniversary of CheenaBhavana in Santiniketan, he said the "differences" between the two countries were outweighed by their shared interest and trust. 

Pitching for a new impetus in the bilateral relations, Ma said, "China-India relationship is not going to be a walk in the park. It is going to be difficult with ups and downs. However, we need to have confidence that we can do it".

India, US Officials Vow To Boost Cooperation In Aircraft Carrier Tech

New Delhi: Top officials from India and the US have explored possibilities of boosting cooperation under various aspects of aircraft carrier technology.

The issue was discussed during the concluding session of 4th meeting of the Joint Working Group on Aircraft Carrier Technology Cooperation (JWGACTC), the defence ministry said.

The JWGACTC was constituted under the Indo-US Defence Trade and Technology Initiative.

The concluding session of the Joint Working Group meeting explored ways to boost cooperation between the two countries in sharing technology relating to aircraft carrier.

Case Registered Against Kamal HaasanInVaranasi For Terror Remark

New Delhi: An FIR has been registered against actor Kamal Haasanin Varanasi, a day after he had said in his column in a Tamil magazinethat right-wing Hindus have moved from engaging in debates to employing terrorism to propagate their agenda.

Haasan has been booked under Sections 500 (punishment for defamation), 511, 298 (hurting religious sentiment), 295-A (intend to outrage religious feelings), and 505-C (attempt to incite hatred enmity between classes) of the Indian Penal Code. The matter will be heard on Saturday.

NitiAayogSays India Would Be In Top 50 InWB's Biz Rankings In 2 Years

New Delhi: NitiAayog CEO Amitabh Kant has exuded confidence that India would be among the top 50 nations in the global ease of doing business ranking within two years due to the reforms being carried out by the Modi government.

India jumped 30 places to rank 100th in the World Bank's 'ease of doing business' ranking, helped by a slew of reforms in taxation, licensing, investor protection and bankruptcy resolution.

"In the next two year's time India will definitely be in top 50 and in three years we should really target India to be in top 20 and this is doable because of the reforms that have been carried out since three years," Kant said in an interview to a news channel.
