in DNDQuick

New Delhi: In the United States, thousands of federal workers will be unable to report for work on Monday, as efforts to reach a compromise ahead of the working week failed yesterday. The failure to agree on a deal means many federal employees will be furloughed on unpaid leave until the stalemate is resolved. However, essential federal services and military activity are continuing.

The shutdown began at midnight on Friday, when lawmakers failed to agree on an extension to federal funding. The Senate set a vote for midday today on advancing a measure to provide temporary government funding through February 8.

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: Ahead of presentation of union budget 2018-19 in the Parliament, anASSOCHAM-EY joint paper has noted that nearly 4% of India's GDP is estimated to have been lost due to malnutrition as women and children deserve a better deal in expenditure outlay.

Quoting data from the National Family Health Survey-4, the ASSOCHAM-EY paper noted with concern that close to 60% of our children aged between 6 - 59 months are anaemic. It is only about 10% of the country's total children who are receiving adequate diet.

The women and girl child, for whom the NDA government has launched flagship programmes, are no better in terms of their daily nutrition intake. About 55% of non-pregnant women and 58 per cent of pregnant women aged between aged 15-49 years are anaemic.
