India Processes 24% Of Solid Waste Generated: Ministry

New Delhi: Nearly 24 per cent of the solid waste generated in the country was being processed as on January 31, according to data presented by the housing and urban affairs ministry in Parliament.

Out of over 1.43 lakh tonnes per day (tpd) of solid waste generated across the country, only about 33,800 tpd (or 23.73 per cent) was being processed as on the last day of January, the data showed.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), the government aims to attain 100 per cent scientific management of solid waste, and also make the country Open-Defecation Free (ODF) by October 2, 2019, the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi.

Despite Complaints About Missing Names, Bypolls in Phulpur & Gorakhpur End Peacefullly

New Delhi: In Uttar Pradesh, bye-polls were held on Sunday in Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seats peacefully. 

Gorakhpur recorded around 43 % voting and Phulpur above 375. No untoward incident was reported from any area.

Voters turn out in rural areas was better in comparison to Voters turn out in urban areas. 

Large number of people complained about missing of their names from voters list and not distribution of voters slip in several areas.

First Ever 'Crime-Free Zone' Along International India-Bangladesh Border Launched

New Delhi: The director generals of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh(BGB) have declared an 8.3 km stretch of the Indo-Bangladesh border as a 'crime-free zone'. 

In a first for both countries,border guarding forces with the help of the civil administrations of the two countries, NGOs and the local people will help in ensuring that no crime takes place along the stretch that covers the Gunarmath and Kalyani Border Out Posts (BOPs) in India and the Puthkhali and Daulatpur BOPs across the border.

Passport Now Mandatory For Bank Loans Of Rs. 50 Crore And Above

New Delhi: The government has made providing passport details mandatory for taking loans of 50 crore rupees and above to ensure a swift action in case of fraud and prevent fraudsters from fleeing the country.

Financial Services Secretary, Rajiv Kumar in a tweet today said for all existing loans of over 50 crore rupees, banks have been asked to collect passport details of borrowers within 45 days. 

He said Passport details will help banks to take timely action and inform the relevant authorities to prevent fraudsters from fleeing the country.

MEA Says India Willing To Work With China To Develop Ties

New Delhi: India is willing to work with China to develop relations based on commonalities, while dealing with differences on the basis of mutual respect and sensitivity to each other's interests, according to the external affairs ministry.

The comments by Ministry of External Affairs SpokespersonRaveesh Kumar have come after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing said India and China should shed suspicion and manage differences by meeting halfway, suggesting toning down of tough Chinese posture against New Delhi after the tense Doklam standoff.
