NEW YORK: Chief Executive of the Facebook Inc. Mark Zuckerbergplans to testify before the US Congress as he bows to pressure from lawmakers insisting him to explain how 50 million users' data ended up in the hands of a political consultancy.
Lawmakers in the United States and Europe are demanding to know more about the company's privacy practices after a whistleblower said consultancy Cambridge Analytica improperly accessed data to target US and British voters in close-run elections.

Facebook said the company had received invitations to testify before Congress and that they were talking to legislators.Facebook shares closed down 4.9 percent on Tuesday and have fallen almost 18 percent since March 16, when Facebook first acknowledged that user data had been improperly channeled to Cambridge Analytica, which was hired by Donal Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

SC Asks, How Is Aadhaar Data Safe At Time Of Authentication

New Delhi: In a major blow to the government, the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday refused to issue any direction extending the March 31 deadline to link Aadhaar with welfare schemes to avail subsidiesand benefits under various Centre and state-sponsored programmes.
A plea to extend the deadline was made before a constitution bench led by Chief Justice DipakMisra after UIDAI CEO, Ajay BhushanPandey concluded a PowerPoint presentation to the bench pointing out that 88% of Aadhaar-holders had been successfully authenticated. Senior advocate KV Vishwanathan, arguing for the petitioners, urged the bench to extend the deadline saying the number of people left out of the system was too high.

Gujarati made compulsory in all schools

New Delhi: Gujarati has been made a compulsory language in all the schools affiliated with different boards in the state. 

State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama informed the assembly on Tuesday that teaching of the language will be mandatory in schools affiliated with CBSE, ICSE and international boards as well as English medium schools from the academic year 2018-19.

Mr Chudasama said that from academic year beginning June 2018-19, Gujarati will be introduced as an introductory language in classes 1 and 2 wherein basics will be taught.

New Delhi: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has met Opposition leaders from across the country including one of its allies of the BJP -- the Shiv Sena. Mamata is positioning herself as a rallying point of anti-BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) forces with an eye on the 2019 elections.
Banerjee widened the scope of her engagements and will also meet disgruntled BJP leaders like former ministers ArunShourie, YashwantSinha and ShatrughanSinha on Wednesday.

ED to begin attaching Vijay Mallya's properties

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will on Tuesday begin attaching the properties of liquor baron Vijay Mallya, under Section 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Section 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code mandates attachment of the property of an absconder.

Earlier a Delhi court had declared Mallya as proclaimed offender for evading summons.

As per the case registered by the ED, Mallya had allegedly paid USD 200,000 to a British firm and some European countries for displaying Kingfisher logo in Formula One World Championships in London in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
