HRD Ministry Likely To Consider Proposals Of Five More Public Institutions For IoE Status

New Delhi: Union human resource development (HRD) ministry is expected to consider proposals of five more public institutions that were recommended by the Empowered Expert Committee headed by former chief election commissioner N Gopalaswami (EEC) for institute of eminence (IoE) status.

The empowered expert committee (EEC) headed by former chief election commissioner N Gopalaswami that selects IoEs will consider IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, Delhi University, Jadavpur University, West Bengal and Anna University, Chennai for the status, officials familiar with the matter said on condition of anonymity.

Kejriwal Over rules LG Approves Programme To Subsidise Pilgrimage By Senior Citizens

New Delhi: Delhi chief minister ArvindKejriwalhas approved 'Mukhyamantri Tirth YatraY ojana' for senior citizens under which the government will bear the expenses of 77,000 pilgrims every year. Kejriwalalso overruled all objections raised by Lt Governor Anil Baijal, days after the Supreme Court verdict on power tussle between the Delhi government and the Centre.

"Mukhyamantriteerthyatrayojana approved. All objections overruled..." Kejriwal tweeted. Delhi residents above the age of 60 are covered under this scheme. The government said that those selected, will be allowed to be accompanied by an attendant aging 18 years or above and their expenditure will also be borne by the city administration.

Rajnath Singh Says, Security Situation In North East ‘Improved Drastically’ During NDA Rule

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the security situation in North East has ‘improved drastically’ during the four years of NDA government, with insurgency-related incidents coming down by 85 per cent as compared to the 90s.

The government is giving special attention to the internal security in the region, Singh said, addressing the 67th plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) here. He stressed on the need for a forum to address inter-state and security-related issues, including boundary disputes, narcotics and arms trafficking, and common approaches for tackling terrorism and militancy in the region.

"During the last four years of NDA government the security situation has drastically improved. When compared to the '90s, the insurgency related incidents have declined 85 per cent. There is 96 percent reduction in civilian and security forces casualties," he said.
