Rahul Gandhi Meets A Dozen Of Muslim Intellectuals,Activists During His Outreach Programme

New Delhi:As a part of the Congress outreachprogramme, party president Rahul Gandhi met a dozen of Muslim intellectuals and activists.The Congress plans to reach out to professionals, industrialists, civil society and all those who ‘influence public opinion’ and “are aligned to the party’s ideology” ahead of the 2019 LokSabha elections.

The exercise is similar to the ruling BharatiyaJanata Party’s (BJP) Sampark for Samarthan (Contact for Support) initiative launched on May 29 to mark the completion of four years of the NarendraModi government and with an eye on the 2019 polls.

Those who attended Wednesday’s interaction with Gandhi included economist Abusaleh Sharif, former Planning Commission member SyedaSaiyidainHameed, New Delhi-based historian S IrfanHabib, activist Farah Naqvi, educationists RakhshandaJalil and Ilyas Malik apart from Congress leaders Salman Khurshid and NadeemJaved.

Telangana Police Externs A Hindu Seer From Hyderabad For Making Inflammatory Comments

New Delhi:Telangana police externed a Hindu seer SwamyParipoornananda from Hyderabad for six months for allegedly making inflammatory comments against Muslim community. The Telengana government using provisions of the Telangana Prevention of Anti-Social and Hazardous Activities Act, 1930 banished the Hindu seer.

Two days ago the government used the same law to banish Dalit activist Kathi Mahesh for a similar period of time for insulting Lord Ram.The law allows the police to banish people through so-called externment.Paripoornananda was picked up from his residence at Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills, forced into a vehicle and sent to Kakinada in East Godavari district, where he runs a spiritual centre called Sri Peetham.

AIMPLB Attacks Section Of Media For Spreading Fake News Regarding Its Plan To Set Up Shariah Courts

New Delhi:  After a backlash in the media, All India Muslim Perosnal Law Board (AIMPLB) retracted by attacking on a section of the media for spreading fake news regarding its plan to set up ‘shariah courts’ in each district of the country.

“@AIMPLB_Official never demanded a parallel court system. It has been and will be running DarulQazas under the arbitration act. Our DarulQazas are only arbitration centers that are helping the society. Please ignore fake news,” it tweeted.

AIMPLB secretary ZafaryabJilani said there was no proposal for setting up new ‘darulqazas’ on the agenda of the board’s meeting in New Delhi on July 15. “We had set up our first centre in 1993 and more centres have come up since. Their progress report is presented to the board from time to time,” he said.

New Delhi:The Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led state government is preparing observe ‘Ramayana month’ in a big wayafter celebrating Krishna Janmashtami and other Hindu festivals.Communism and religion may make for strange bedfellows, but a new trend is emerging for the modern Reds in Kerala.

In Kerala, the Malayalam month of ‘Karkidakom’ (July 17-August 16) is known as the ‘Ramayana month’ and many Hindu households read the epic daily in the belief that it will ward off sufferings. The CPM’s feeder organisation ‘SamskrithaSangham’ has lined up several events for the month in a move to pre-empt the SanghParivar from gaining mileage from the occasion.

Biju Janata Dal And YSR Congress Come Out In Support Of One Nation One Poll

New Delhi:  Prime Minister NarendraModi’s ambitious plan to conduct LokSabha and Assembly elections together got some more support when the BijuJanata Dal (BJD) and the YSR Congress came out in support of it. With the two parties favouring the concept of simultaneous polls before the Law Commission today, a total of six parties are now in favour of the idea, while nine are opposed to it.

Representatives of the two parties met the law panel today and supported the concept. On July 7 and 8, the Commission had held consultations with various parties on the issue. These two parties presented their stand today. Besides the BJD, YSR Congress and the NDA ally ShiromaniAkali Dal, the AIADMK, the Samajwadi Party and the TelanganaRashtraSamiti support the idea.
