New Delhi: President of the DMK M K Stalin is all set to discuss the re-induction of estranged brother Azhagiri’s as well as the party’s preparedness for upcoming polls. In his first major party meeting as Stalin is meeting all district secretaries on September 8.

According to senior leaders of DMK, Stalin will also discuss the party’s current position on the ground.“The main agenda of the meeting is expected to be fundraising and Stalin will exhort the party office-bearers to raise funds for the party. He will also hear the grievances from the 65 district secretaries. Since Thiruvarur and Thirupparankundram bypolls are due soon because of the deaths of Karunanidhi and AIADMK’s A K Bose, Stalin would also devise strategies for these elections,” a senior district secretary from central Tamil Nadu said.

Since the district secretaries meeting’ is being held two days after Azhagiri’s major show of strength on Septemeber 5 in Chennai, his demand for re-induction into the party would be on agenda.

Azhagiri has publicly accepted Stalin’s leadership but has said that that the ‘true’ followers of Karunanidhi are with him.

Azhagiri was expelled from the party in 2014 for anti-party activities and is seeking a re-entry into DMK after his father’s death.

On Sunday, Azhagiri refused to comment on Stalin’s silence to his demand, but told media at Madurai, “As I said earlier, lakhs of my supporters will take part in the rally. Since I am the son of Kalaignar (Karunanidhi), I will stand by my words.”

Political observers said Azhagiri’s refusal to respond on questions related to his brother could be a strategy to facilitate his re-entry into the DMK.
