New Delhi: The Yo-Yo test which has been a part of the sporting world to test fitness of the athletes long before has generated considerable heat in recent times after experienced seniors cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina failed the endurance test, which served as one of the primary reasons for their ouster from the Sri Lanka tour. Ashwin, though, appears to have cleared the hurdle.

Off-spinning all-rounder R. Ashwin has, according to sources, cleared the Yo-Yo fitness test on Wednesday last, that has been made mandatory for all cricketers ahead of India selection. Getting through this rather brutal physical examination means Ashwin will be available for the ODI series against New Zealand, beginning Oct. 22, and then the Test series versus Sri Lanka, starting November 16.

New Delhi: Last week the British author behind books including Man Booker winner ‘The Remains of the Day’ was selected for this year’s Nobel award for literature.

The Nobel Prize for literature comes with a handsome prize money of 9m Swedish krona (£832,000). The prize is named after dynamite inventor Alfred Nobel and has been awarded since 1901 for achievements in science, literature and peace in accordance with his will.

Despite being among those tipped for the prize, whose previous winners include Seamus Heaney, Toni Morrison, Doris Lessing and Pablo Neruda; Ishiguro told a publication that he had been completely unprepared for the announcement and had even doubted at first if it was true.

New Delhi: The King of Saudi Arabia has recently decreed that women are allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, ending its status as the only country in the world where women were not allowed to do so. A ministerial body will be set up to give advice within 30 days and the royal order will be implemented by 24 June 2018.
Activists around the world and especially in Saudi Arabia have been overjoyed at the Kings decree; however, the conservatives in the country are dismayed. The conservatives’ opinion on the subject range from “They are too stupid to drive,” and “It will lead to more intermingling of the sexes.”
