New Delhi: In Jammu and Kashmir, two Army men, including a major, were martyred and two other personnel injured when terrorists opened fire on a search party of security forces in Shopian district. Director General of Police in the state SP Vaidya, said, a cordon and search operation was launched by Army in Zaipora area of Shopian during the night following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists there.

He said, during the operation, the terrorists fired upon the party in which four army personnel were injured. He said, the injured were taken to hospital, where two of them, including Major Kamlesh Pandey, succumbed to injuries. He said, the search operation at Zaipora is on.

New Delhi: In Karnataka, over 11 crore rupees cash has been seized till now by the Income Tax Department as part of the ongoing searches at multiple premises linked to Karnataka Energy Minister D K Shivakumar and his associates in connection with a case of alleged tax evasion. 

Mr. Shivakumar has been overseeing the stay of 44 Gujarat Congress MLAs at a resort on the outskirts of Bengaluru, who have been brought to the Karnataka capital in view of the Rajya Sabha polls in their state. 

New Delhi: A superintendent of the newly-established GST Council has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI for allegedly receiving bribes through one of his close aides. 

Monish Malhotra, the superintendent, and Manas Patra, the alleged middleman, were arrested on wednesday evening. This could be the first instance of a GST Council official being arrested by the central investigating agency.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on thursday refused to stay the Election Commission's notification allowing None of the Above (NOTA) provision in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls in Gujarat.

The court's order came on a plea filed by Gujarat Congress Chief whip Shailesh Manubhai Parmar who had sought an interim stay on the operation of Tuesday's notification.

The court said it will not stay the proceedings, but will examine the constitutional validity of the notification.
