BCCI announces 20-member squad led by Virat Kohli for World Test Championship final, England series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 20-member strong squad for the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, England, which will take place from June 18 and the five-match Test series against England following the same.

The BCCI has names 18 members in the squad in addition of the duo of KL Rahul and Wriddhiman Saha, subject to their fitness.

KL Rahul was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and will be undergoing surgery for the same, while Saha tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The notable missouts were the opener Prithvi Shaw, who since the Adelaide debacle has completely transformed his form and technique and pacer Bhuvnehswar Kumar, who still is facing fitness issues after missing a couple of games in the IPL due to tightness in his thigh.

Wrestler dies in brawl outside Delhi stadium, police probe Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar's role

India Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar landed in a fresh controversy after a 24-year-old wrestler was allegedly beaten to death and two more were assaulted outside Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi's North-West Delhi's Model Town area on late Tuesday night. 

The Delhi Police team, who are looking into this matter, have so far detained one person in connection and as per a report in The Indian Express a probe has also been initiated against the role of the Olympic medalist. 

The police in the report confirmed that they were alerted about the incident around 1 am on Wednesday after the injured visited Vinayak Hospital. It has also been learnt that the deceased was the son of a Delhi Police Head Constable.

BCCI VP Rajeev Shukla announces IPL 2021 has been postponed, not cancelled, as few players wanted to leave the country

BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla on Tuesday clarified that IPL 2021 has been postponed and not cancelled completely. Shukla asserted that the remaining matches of the 14th edition will be held in due course of time.

IPL 2021, which saw 29 league matches being played till Sunday, was suspended after two more players tested positive in the bio-bubble. Kolkata Knight Riders' Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive first as the 30th match between their team and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday was rescheduled. On Tuesday, hours before the clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI), Wriddhiman Saha (from SRH) tested positive for the virus. It was also learnt that veteran Delhi Capitals (DC) spinner has returned a positive result in Ahmedabad.

KKR’s Covid-19 cases throws IPL into scheduling nightmare

The BCCI faces an Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture rescheduling nightmare following the postponement of Monday's game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers (RCB).

The game had to be postponed after two KKR players - Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier - tested positive for coronavirus. The game was set to be played at Motera in Ahmedabad, but the BCCI now might have to rejig the entire IPL itinerary. Two members of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) contingent and a cleaner of their team bus have also tested positive for the virus in New Delhi. CSK have cancelled their practice session scheduled for Monday.
