Chetan Sharma-led selection panel tried to ruin Virat Kohli's career, says former Pakistan spinner

in SPORTS

Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has hit out at the recently-sacked Chetan Sharma-led Indian selection committee for ruining Virat Kohli’s successive run as the Indian captain across formats. Kaneria feels the selection committee didn’t handle Kohli’s tenure as a captain well and that making him play selective matches while he was struggling to score runs, further added salt to injury.

While talking on his YouTube channel, Danish said, "The selection committee tried to ruin Virat Kohli's career. They didn't select him consistently when he was struggling with form, making him play selective cricket. He was unceremoniously removed as the captain."

Former star batter reveals Team India’s ‘big mistake’

in SPORTS

India captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid have been slammed since the side’s stunning 10-wicket defeat to England in the T20 World Cup semifinals last week. The criticism has continued to mount in recent days with several former cricketers and pundits blasting them right, left, and center. After receiving flak from the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Michael Vaughan, and Harbhajan Singh, the latest to join the bandwagon is former India batter, Mohammed Kaif. The common theme behind Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid’s criticism has been the selection blunders the duo committed during India’s failed T20 World Cup campaign in Australia. Among the poor calls was not allowing leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal to feature in the playing XI in the entire tournament, something that has perplexed many ex-India cricketers, especially tweakers.

Ashwin reveals only reason CSK would have thought about selling Jadeja before IPL 2023

in SPORTS

Before the IPL 2023 mini-auction, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) decided to keep star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, putting an end to any rumours of a disagreement between the two parties.

In response to this, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed the only reason why CSK may have thought about selling off Jadeja and why he is glad the franchise decided against it. Ashwin said that although CSK would have saved 16 crore by releasing Jadeja, he claimed that given his all-around skills, it would have been impossible to find a replacement.

The seasoned spinner added that giving Jadeja to a different squad would have made that group much stronger heading into the auction. These comments were made by Ashwin during a YouTube video.

All-Star catcher declines qualifying offer from Cubs

in SPORTS

Catcher Willson Contreras will reject the Cubs’ qualifying offer and instead test the open market this winter, ESPN’s Jesse Rogers tweets. The Cubs, who surprisingly did not trade Contreras at the deadline — a deal sending him to Houston was reportedly nixed by Astros ownership — made the easy call to instead make the one-year, $19.65M qualifying offer to their longtime catcher. Contreras always appeared overwhelmingly likely to decline the offer. He’ll now seek a multi-year deal in free agency.
