Globalisation being 'weaponised' by dominant players: S Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during his official tour in Nigeria, stated that globalisation is being "weaponised" in many ways by dominant players. While addressing the aspects of a new global order, he highlighted the designation of currency, trade, and tourism as tools of dominance.

The minister pointed out that dominant players readily utilise their market shares on the global stage for their specific national objectives, while he acknowledged the positive aspects of globalisation.

SC notice to Maha CM Shinde, MLAs on Thackeray group's plea against Speaker's order

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and some other MLAS on a plea of the Uddhav Thackeray faction challenging Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar's order declaring the Shiv Sena bloc led by Shinde as the "real political party" after its split in June 2022.

A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra took note of the submissions of senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the Thackeray faction, and sought response of the chief minister and other MLAs in two weeks.

Dense fog, coldwave grip north India; yellow alert in Delhi, flights affected

Parts of Delhi-NCR woke up to dense fog on Tuesday, as coldwave conditions continued to sweep north Indian states. On Monday, the meteorological department had issued a warning for dense fog in Delhi today. The weather department had also issued a yellow alert for the day. 

Further, the mainly clear sky was on the forecast for Tuesday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to settle around 18 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Several flights were delayed as dense fog reduced visibility in the national capital.

Over 100 Private Jets To Descend In Ayodhya For Ram Temple Event

Wealthy devotees, among the 8,000 or so attendees part of the invite-only opening ceremony of Ram mandir in Ayodhya, have reportedly splurged lakhs on jets to be part of the grand ceremony on Monday.

At least 100 private jets will descend on January 22 on Ayodhya airport, filling it to capacity, according to a report. Slots at Varanasi, a city around four hours away by car, are also full, as are jet spaces in Gorakhpur airport, which is a three-hour drive away, news agency Reuters reported.

"It's become like a status symbol to be invited to this event," said Rajan Mehra, CEO of Indian luxury charter service Club One Air, according to Reuters. Mehra added that his fleet, which includes the Dassault Falcon 2000, is booked to make multiple trips next week.

Study finds new immune cell to attack and eliminate Cancer, Covid

Researchers have discovered a type of immune cell in the human body known to be important for allergy and other immune responses that can also attack and eliminate cancer and fight viruses like SARS-Cov-2, that causes COVID-19 infection.

These cells, called human type-2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s), can be expanded outside of the body and applied in larger numbers to overpower a tumour's defences and eliminate malignant cells in mouse models with cancer, according to the preclinical research published in the journal Cell.
