Akhilesh Yadav blames Congress for rift in INDIA bloc, says 'enthusiasm missing'

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday blamed the Congress for the ongoing fissures within the INDIA bloc and said that the enthusiasm grand old party needed to show in discussing and engaging with alliance partners was not visible. 

"Congress should have come forward. The enthusiasm that Congress needed to show in discussing and engaging with the India Alliance was not visible," Akhilesh Yadav said in an exclusive interview with a news channel.

ASI report says temple existed at the site of Gyanvapi mosque

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in its scientific survey report on the Gyanvapi mosque complex has concluded that “there existed a Hindu temple prior to the construction of the existing structure” at the site.

The report was submitted to the court last month in a sealed cover. Its copies were given on Thursday (January 26) by the court to Hindu and Muslim litigants in matters related to the dispute over the site.

The ASI was tasked by the Varanasi district court in July 2023 to conduct a scientific survey of the mosque to ascertain if it was “constructed over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple”.

Supreme Court takes note of Calcutta High Court judge vs judge, hearing tomorrow

The Supreme Court on Friday took suo motu cognisance of the allegations of 'misconduct' levelled by Calcutta High Court Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay against fellow judge Soumen Sen. The matter has been listed for hearing on January 27 (Saturday).

Justice Gangopadhyay has accused Justice Soumen Sen of "acting clearly for some political party in this state" and intimidating another judge in favour of a political leader in Bengal.

Kerala financial crisis: Top Court asks Centre to reply to state's plea for urgent funds

The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Centre to file its reply to the Kerala Government's interim application seeking urgent release of funds as the financial year was coming to close in March.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan asked Attorney General R Venkataramani, who was appearing for the Centre, to file the response on the interim application.

During the brief hearing, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the State of Kerala, told the bench that some urgent orders are needed as the state is running out of funds to be paid to its employees.

Lokayukta notice to AAP leaders Jain, Sisodia over report alleging cost inflation of 100 Cr in construction of classrooms

The Lokayukta has issued notices to former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain on the basis of a Directorate of Vigilance (DoV) report stating a cost inflation of Rs 100 crore by the Aam Aadmi Party government in the construction of around 20,000 classrooms.

Justice Harish Chandra Mishra also directed that copies of the report submitted by the DoV be provided to Sisodia and Jain. Since Sisodia is in judicial custody in relation to the liquor excise policy case, Justice Mishra directed notices to be served to him via the jail superintendent.
