‘China’s Territorial Claims On Parts Of India, Taiwan Useless’, says Taiwan Foreign Minister Wu

Taiwanese foreign minister Joseph Wu last week during an interview with Fareed Zakaria on his show CNN Fareed Zakaria GPS said that China was making claims which were against the status quo and those claims are not only ‘useless’ but can also be ‘very dangerous’.

Wu pointed out that China’s territorial claims in the East China Sea, South China Sea, Taiwan and parts of India contain the potential to disrupt peace in the region. Indian soldiers in June 2020 thwarted an attempt by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to encroach territory in Galwan Valley and other friction points across the LAC and Eastern Ladakh.

Allahabad High Court issues non-bailable warrant against Mathura District Magistrate

The Allahabad High Court has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Mathura District Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal and directed police to produce him on the next date of hearing for "disrespecting" the order of the court on payment of pension.

Hearing a contempt plea filed by Braj Mohan Sharma and three others, Justice Saral Srivastava observed that the April 18 order passed by the Mathura district magistrate on the payment of pension issue is nothing but a "gross contemptuous act" by him as it cannot be believed that an officer cannot understand the intent and simple language in which the order of the court has been passed.

New Indian Army Chief talks about focus on high operational readiness

Noting that India faces multiple challenges due to the fast-changing geopolitical situation, new Army chief General Manoj Pande on Sunday said his main task will be to ensure high operational readiness along the borders with China and Pakistan as well as military modernisation with infusion of cutting-edge technologies.

“My utmost and foremost priority will be to ensure very high standards of operational preparedness to face the current, contemporary and future challenges across the entire spectrum of conflict,” Gen Pande said, after reviewing the guard of honour at South Block.

“Secondly, in terms of capability development and force modernisation, my effort would be to leverage new technologies through the process of indigenisation,” he added.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said his late father and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray had supported Narendra Modi when there was a demand for removing the latter as Gujarat chief minister in the wake of 2002 post-Godhra riots.

Thackeray made the comments in an interview to Marathi daily 'Loksatta'. He said a demand was being raised to remove Modi as Gujarat chief minister when BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister of the country.

During that period, another BJP bigwig L K Advani had come to Mumbai to attend a rally and discussed the demand with Bal Thackeray, the Maharashtra chief minister said.

Karnataka signs MoU with ISMC for setting up Semiconductor fab plant worth Rs 22,900 cr

Taking a huge stride in its mission to emerge as a front runner in the semiconductor and IT hardware sector in the country, Karnataka signed an MoU with Israel-based ISMC Analog Fab Private Limited for setting up a Semiconductor Fab plant in the state with an investment of Rs 22,900 crore in the presence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
