Collegium recommends names of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia, Jamshed B Pardiwala for elevation to Supreme Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, who is currently Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, and Justice Jamshed Burjor Pardiwala for elevation to the top court.

The Collegium headed by CJI N V Ramana cleared the names. Other members of the Collegium are Justices U U Lalit, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud and L Nageswara Rao.

Justice Pardiwala is in line to become the Chief Justice of India upon retirement of Justice P S Narasimha as CJI in May 2028.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami to contest bypolls from Champawat

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will contest the upcoming bye-election in the state from Champawat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Thursday.

Voting for the elections will take place on May 31 and the counting of votes will take place on June 3.

The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Bharatiya Janata Party gave its approval to Dhami for the Assembly bye-elections in Uttarakhand, a press note issued by the party read on Thursday.

Earlier, BJP MLA Kailash Gehtori had resigned from the Champawat Assembly to make way for Dhami to contest polls from Champwat.

Lynching of 2 tribals in MP: Families of 6 held say accused linked to Bajrang Dal

At least six of the 13 persons arrested for the death of two tribal men, who were assaulted on Tuesday over allegations of cow slaughter in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni, are members of the Bajrang Dal — and had allegedly participated in previous “raids against cattle smugglers”, their family members told The Indian Express.

The families of some of the six others arrested claimed they were cajoled into joining the raid, which led to the deaths, by people they met at a local wedding. Another accused is a tribal youth whose family does “not know much” about the case.

The local court in Seoni has sent the 13 accused to judicial custody. SP (Seoni) Kumar Prateek said the police have not been able to ascertain if the accused are Bajrang Dal members.

CBI arrests NCLT interim resolution professional, 2 others in Rs 20 lakh bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested an Interim Resolution Professional (IRP) of the National Law Tribunal (NCLT), Mumbai, Subrata Maity and two private persons -Ashish Somani and Suchit Tanka, including a Mumbai-based firm's proprietor in a Rs 20 lakh alleged bribery case in Pune, officials said on Thursday.

A case was registered on complaint against an IRP, NCLT and unknown others on the allegations of demanding undue advantage of Rs.20 lakh for settling the NCLT matter of complainant's company.

Armed forces personnel must complete annual identification to claim pension: MoD

Reacting to reports in the media regarding the non-disbursement of pensions to armed forces personnel for April, the government today advised all pensioners to complete annual identification which is usually done in the month of November by all banks acting as pension disbursing agencies.

”Due to the COVID situation, the government had extended the window for annual identification due on 30 November 2021 up to 31 March 2022, a press note issued by the Ministry of Defence said.
