Kanhaiya Lal had on June 15 filed a report with the Udaipur police that he had been receiving threats, but police did not understand the gravity of the matter and instead brokered an agreement between the two parties.

DGP ML Lather said police have already suspended an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and the station house officer (SHO) concerned for failing to ascertain the situation.

Rajasthan police said a complaint was filed against Lal by one Nazim on June 10 for allegedly posting an offensive social media post.

Maharashtra political crisis: In case of floor test, Malik and Deshmukh could have voted

The Supreme Court on Wednesday had permitted ex-ministers Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik, both in judicial custody on laundering charges, to vote in the floor test in Maharashtra assembly that was scheduled for Thursday. However, the CM quit on Wednesday night deciding not to go in for a confidence vote.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and J B Pardiwala had directed the CBI/ED to escort the duo from jail to the assembly and lodge them back in judicial custody after they cast their votes.

Maharashtra Political Crisis: PIL seeks FIR against Uddhav, Aaditya Thackeray and Sanjay Raut

In more trouble for the Maharashtra Vikas Agahadi (MVA) government, a public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Bombay High Court seeking registration of first information reports (FIRs) against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Cabinet Minister Aaditya Thackeray and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut sedition and breach of public peace following the continuing turmoil in the Maharashtra government after a faction of Shiv Sena MLAs turned revel.

The petition filed by Pune-based activist Hemant Patil has sought that the Thackerays and Raut be restrained from “organizing press conferences, tours, and visits to various places in Maharashtra on the issue of rebel of MLAs of the Eknath Shinde group".

Pilgrims euphoric as Amarnath yatra begins today

Amidst the chants of Bum Bum Bhole and Har Har Mahadev, the first batch of Shri Amarnathji yatris has left for the Kashmir valley from Jammu.

The first batch of Shri Amarnath yatris was flagged off from Yatri Niwas Bhawan in Jammu by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. More than 3000 pilgrims left for the Kashmir valley in the wee hours today. The yatra is taking place after a gap of two years. The yatra couldn't be conducted due to Covid pandemic for last 2 years. The J&K administration is expecting record number of yatris this year.

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind flays Udaipur killing: ‘no one has the right to take life’

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind on Tuesday condemned the brutal killing of a tailor in Udaipur over his support online for now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma who remarks about the Prophet Mohammed sparked furore in the Islamic world.

"Maulana Halceemuddin Qasmi, General Secretary of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, has condemned the incident of brutal killing in Udaipur apparently on the pretext of the insult to the Prophet (PBUH) and called it against the law of land and against the religion of Islam," reads the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind statement.
