Following the recently concluded three-tier panchayat polls, the elections to the post of president and vice president were held on Thursday.

According to election results announced on Thursday, Bharatiya Janta Party-backed candidate Krishna Bai Suryawanshi has been elected unopposed to the post of president in Mahidpur janpad panchayat while BJP-backed candidate Kishan Singh Tanwar from Jhutawad village of Mahidpur tehsil has been elected unopposed to the post of vice-president of the janpad panchayat.

Indian Railways has been working towards maintenance and operational work throughout railway stations. The East Central Railway will undertake the doubling work at the Yusufpur-Karimuddinpur stations in the Varanasi divisions. Hence, at least 13 trains will remain affected until July 30. 

To inform passengers about the same, Western Railway took to Twitter to spread the word. "Few WR trains will be affected due to ongoing Non-Interlocking work in connection with doubling of Yusufpur - Karimuddinpur stations of Ballia - Aunrihar section of North Eastern Railway," read the tweet.

Asked about Delhi chief minister's political clearance request, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "As we conveyed last week, we received an entry on our political clearance portal on July 21."

"Given to understand that the host government Singapore has shared certain updates and changes to its invitation with the Delhi government. I would request you to check with the Delhi government on what is the status of that," he said.

In the three-tier panchayat elections, BJP captured all the four janpad panchayats of the district. After winning election of president and vice president of Indore and Mhow janpad panchayats on Wednesday, BJP won both the posts of president and vice president of Depalpur and Sanwer also on Thursday.

In Sanwer janpad panchayat, BJP supported Ramkanya Chauhan was elected unopposed. For the post of vice-president, there was a contest between BJP supported Anokilal Chaudhary and Congress supported Shankarlal Parmar, in which Anokilal got 19 votes and Shankarlal got 6 votes.

Two important things happened on the six-month anniversary of the Tata group taking over Air India. First came the announcement that the appointment of Campbell Wilson, the Chief Executive Officer, has been cleared by the Home Ministry. The mandatory process was a foregone conclusion, but was in focus considering the fiasco with the previous appointment of Ilker Ayci. Secondly, the airline came up with a tender for sale of all three B777-200LR aircraft in its fleet.

There have been continuous reports of Air India finalising an order for the A350. A Business Standard report has indicated that the airline has already appointed a chief pilot for the A350.
