Jharkhand MLAs held in illegal cash possesation, colleague blames Sarma

The police in West Bengal on Sunday placed under arrest the three Jharkhand Congress MLAs, who were detained in Howrah on Saturday, after allegedly recovering “almost Rs 50 lakh” from their vehicle, senior officers told The Indian Express.

The case has been transferred to the state's CID, the officers said, even as the Congress party  suspended the three MLAs, Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap and Naman Bixel Kongari.

Electric vehicles catching fires are helping EV industry, says Ather Energy CEO

Irrespective of how electric vehicles would help in changing the world for the better, the continuous rise in EV fires has left people confused. However, recently while responding to a query on how the fire incidents of electric two-wheelers of various manufacturers, such as Ola Electric, Okinawa, PureEV and even Ather's sole case, would impact the growth of EVs in India, Ather Energy CEO and co-founder Tarun Mehta laid emphasis on how these incidents will help EV industry to mature. 

"What has happened recently, I think, has ended up maturing the industry. This will push more and more manufacturers to focus more on quality and reliability," Mehta told PTI. The incidents are pushing more and more players to focus on "quality as the number one parameter", he said, adding in any case "EVs are going mainstream irrespective, but with better quality products, this will become a no brainer."

Bombay HC orders Collector to demolish 48 high-rises near Mumbai Airport

The Bombay High Court on Friday directed the Mumbai Suburban District Collector to state how he proposes to initiate demolition of the 48 obstacles caused by buildings and other structures located near the city airport for violation of height norms.

A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice M S Karnik also pulled up the collector for trying to shift the responsibility of demolition to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and said the collector has to do something about this "menace" (obstacles near the airport).

'Won't increase VAT on petrol and diesel', says UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that the Value Added Tax on petrol and diesel is the lowest in the state, adding that there will be no increase in the VAT in the near future as well. The Chief Minister reviewed the updated status of revenue collection in the state with the officials of the state Tax Department at his official residence.

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna was also present on the occasion. "Keeping in mind the larger public interest, we have not increased the rate of VAT or imposed any new tax in the state. Today the lowest VAT rate on petrol/diesel is in Uttar Pradesh. There will be no increase in VAT in the near future as well. Keeping this in mind, efforts should be made to increase the revenue collection according to the zone-wise potential," said Yogi.

Noida Supertech twin-tower demolition: CBRI says structural audit of nearly buildings yet to be obtained

Noida Supertech twin-tower demolition: Weeks before the demolition of Supertech twin towers in Noida, the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee on Friday told the Supreme Court that it has not received information regarding structural audit of nearby buildings, impact of vibration generated due to the blast, post demolition debris, etc.

The Noida authority informed the Supreme Court that Supertech`s Twin Towers will be demolished on August 21. Senior advocate Ravindra Kumar, representing Noida authority, said that they have filed a status report on what has happened since the last meeting.
