Article 370: China reiterates claims over Ladakh, says 'western border' always belonged to us

China has said that it doesn’t recognise the Indian Supreme Court’s ruling that upheld the Narendra Modi government’s decision to carve out a separate Union Territory for Ladakh from erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state.

70% of UK doesn't want Rishi Sunak to be PM any longer, poll shows

UK prime minister Rishi Sunak slips to worst ever rating has his government faces Rwanda policy row, according to a survey published by YouGov. The poll found 70 per cent of people have an unfavourable opinion of the premier while 21 per cent have a favourable view. This means that Rishi Sunak's net favourability rating is at minus 49 - down by 10 points from late November and the lowest score he has recorded since becoming PM in October last year.

As per the poll, majority of 2019 Tory voters - 56 per cent - said that they had a negative view of Mr Sunak while 40 per cent had a positive view. The score is comparable to Boris Johnson’s during his final months in office but it was still higher than Liz Truss. This comes as Rishi Sunak faces multiple challenges as he tries to restore the image of his Conservative party. Meanwhile, the opposition Labour Party is ahead as per the poll.

Whole week of ‘very poor’ air for Delhi; low temperature plays significant role

The Capital’s air quality marginally deteriorated on Wednesday and clocked a 24-hour average air quality index of 378 (very poor) — the worst it has been in December — according to the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) national bulletin at 4pm. Wednesday was also the seventh consecutive day when the city’s AQI remained in the “very poor” zone. The AQI at the same time on Tuesday was 355 (very poor).

Met officials said that the worsening air quality was aided by low temperatures and calm winds at night. However, wind speeds will likely pick up on Thursday to 20km/hour, preventing further deterioration, they added.

India cementing another gain over China

From economic growth prints to the shift in supply chain, two Asian heavyweights - India and China - have divergent tales to narrate; one cheering a rise and another striving to arrest the fall.

Amid a trade war with the US and other factors, China, claimed to be world's factory floor, is increasingly losing exports and seeing a dip in production of various items ranging from wines to iPhones. Meanwhile, India's economy has made a strong recovery from the challenges caused by Covid-19, despite ongoing global economic difficulties. On the contrary, China's economic growth is expected to ease amid many challenges, including troubles in its once-booming real estate sector; prompting many investors to drive away their bets to India.
