New system to replace toll plazas on NHs to be introduced in six months

Despite the introduction of FAStag, long queues at toll booths on National Highways are still a reality across India.

But, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has promised to end this soon by introducing a new system.

Gadkari on Wednesday told the Rajya Sabha that his ministry is considering two technologies to put an end to the physical toll plazas across the NH network. These two technologies are GPS-based and Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)-based tolling systems.

The Jharkhand BJP on Wednesday protested outside the state Assembly over the alleged 'Islamisation of Education in the state. The opposition party has alleged that the government has indulged in the Islamisation of education as it has changed the weekly holiday from Sunday to Friday in Muslim-majority areas.

"Islamisation is happening in the state. The government changed the weekly holiday from Sunday to Friday in Muslim-majority areas. People are upset with this," B Narayan, BJP MLA, said while speaking to news agency ANI.

UP: CM Yogi Adityanth dissolves all units of Hindu Yuva Vahini

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday dissolved Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV), once known as his biggest political asset in the eastern part of the state.

The chief minister announced that from now onwards, there would be no unit of HYV anywhere in the state. With this, the organization that had given maximum political mileage to Yogi sans existence.

Adityanath founded the outfit two decades ago to counter his opponents within Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).

In National Herald case, why ED sealed Young Indian office and what Congress plans to do next

In a massive escalation in the National Herald case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) sealed the Young Indian Limited office located in the National Herald building on Wednesday (August 3). Soon after, Delhi Police stepped up security outside the Congress HQ. The National Herald case has been in the public domain for 10 years now.

The ED questioned Congress President Sonia Gandhi last week (July 27) for over three hours for the third time in the National Herald newspaper-linked money laundering case. The questioning pertains to the charge of alleged financial irregularities in the Congress-promoted Young Indian Private Limited, which owns the National Herald newspaper.

Doors shut, no lights: Europe on energy-saving mode as Russian gas dries up

Germany has made headlines this week after switching off lights at public monuments and turning off heating at city-run buildings like leisure centres.

Energy-saving measures across the country are in line with the EU's plan to gradually reduce the demand for gas and avoid blackouts this winter. The aim is to bring down energy consumption by 15 per cent by next March.

This reduction would enable countries to keep the lights on in the worst case scenario if Russia were to totally cut off supplies.
