Indian-origin woman Athira Preetha Rani picked by NASA for space programme training

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has decided to enroll an Indian-origin woman, Athira Preetha Rani, on its astronaut training programme. After Kalpana Chawala and Sunita Williams, Rani is set to become the third Indian-origin female astronaut to embark on a journey to space after having secured a position with the US space agency's programme.

24-year-old Rani has been selected by NASA for a training course and she will accompany NASA's crew to space after successfully completing her training.

Salman Khan files appeal in High Court for restraining order against neighbour

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court against the Sessions Court`s earlier order which refused to pass a restraining order against his Panvel farmhouse neighbour NRI Ketan Kakkar.

In his plea before the High Court, Salman said that Ketan has made several social media posts against him that were defamatory in nature.

Three French Rafale jets make strategic stopover at IAF base during Indo-Pacific deployment

A French Air and Space Force contingent, including three Rafale fighter jets, made a strategically important stopover at the Indian Air Force’s Sulur base in Tamil Nadu as part of a massive military operation in the Pacific Ocean. The Indian Air Force’s assistance to the French force reflected the implementation of a reciprocal logistics support agreement signed by France and India in 2018 to strengthen military cooperation.

According to a French readout, the collaboration with the Indian Air Force demonstrated a high level of mutual trust and interoperability between the two sides. The French contingent was hosted for a technical stopover at Air Force Station Sulur on August 10 and 11 as part of a long-distance deployment from metropolitan France to the Pacific Ocean, according to the statement. From August 10 to September 18, the French Air and Space Force is conducting a major long-range mission in the Indo-Pacific code named as Pegase 22.

Amit Shah to inaugurate one-day national conference of Rural Cooperative Banks today

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate a one-day National Conference of Rural Cooperative Banks organized by the Ministry of Cooperation and the National Federation of State Cooperative Banks (NAFSCOB) on Friday. Amit Shah will also present Performance Awards to select State Cooperative Banks, District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) and PACS, and felicitate a few short-term cooperative credit institutions for 100 years of service, said an official release.

The government has been working for the betterment of agriculture and rural areas and as the government`s investment in agriculture infrastructure increases, so does the role and potential of cooperatives, it further said.
