PM Narendra Modi to lay foundation stone of Kochi Metro Phase 2 today

On September 1 at 6 p.m., Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for Kochi Metro Phase 2. The announcement comes as Prime Minister is all set to visit Karnataka and Kerala on September 1 and 2 to commission the first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi, as well as to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth approximately Rs 3,800 crores in Mangaluru. He will also dedicate phase 1A of the metro project, which will run from SN junction to Vadakkekotta.

The ceremony will be held at the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) trade fair and exhibition centre in the presence of Kerala Governor Arif Muhammed Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Mayor M Anilkumar, Member of Parliament Hibi Eden, Antony Raju (minister of transport), and P Rajeeve (minister of Industries, Law, and Coir) will grace the function with their esteemed presence.

A day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued a fresh summons to her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday (August 31, 2022) said that she would have quit politics much earlier if she knew that the current day politics would be so "dirty". The ED has summoned Abhishek Banerjee to appear before its officers on Friday in connection with its ongoing investigation into the coal smuggling scam.

"I joined politics to serve the society... But now I feel that I would have quit politics much earlier had I been aware earlier that the current day politics would be so dirty where I and my family members would have to face so many fake slanders," news agency IANS quoted Mamata as saying.

According to a source, the Delhi government`s four corporations, namely the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIDC), the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), the Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd (DSCSC) and the Delhi Consumers Cooperative Wholesale Store (DCCWS) have been given the responsibility to open the liquor stores across the city.

Mumbai's richest Ganesh mandal buys record insurance worth Rs 316 crore

The Gaud Saraswat Brahman (GSB) Seva Mandal, one of the richest Ganesh Mandals in Mumbai, has got an insurance cover of Rs 316.40 crore for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. The GSB Seva Mandal was established in 1955 near King's Circle in Matunga, central Mumbai.

Marking the first public celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi after a two-year-long hiatus due to Covid restrictions and lockdowns, the financial capital of India showed that they are not ones to back down.

A volunteer claimed that it is the highest insurance cover taken by a Mandal. Vijay Kamath, chairman of the GSB Seva Mandal, said, "All public liabilities and every devotee visiting the Mandal is covered under the insurance for the 10-day festivities."

Mumbai Metro line-3 trial begins; Maha CM Shinde says it will solve problem of traffic jams

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) on Tuesday began the trial run of the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro line-3 at Sariput Nagar in Aarey Colony here.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis inspected the Metro train from inside and flagged off the trial run around 11 am.

Shinde said it will solve the problem of traffic jams.
