Owaisi hits out at UP govt over survey of madrasas in Kanpur: ‘A conspiracy…’

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government over the ongoing survey of madrasas in Kanpur.

Owaisi alleged there is a conspiracy behind this survey and also attacked the state government over a survey of the properties managed by Sunni and Shia Central Waqf Boards in Uttar Pradesh.

“Why are you (Uttar Pradesh government) surveying Waqf properties only? Do it for Hindu Endowments Board properties too. I was saying there's a conspiracy behind the madrasas' survey. It's coming to the fore. UP govt is violating Article 300 (Right to property),” Owaisi said while addressing a press conference in Hyderabad on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported.

Alert after dam gate opens due to ‘snag’ in Kerala

Panic gripped two Kerala districts Palakkad and Thrissur on Wednesday after one of the three shutters of Parambikulam dam developed snags and automatically opened its entire height of 25 feet, resulting in release of 20,000 cuscus of water in a second.

Security officials camping in the area noticed the snag at 2 am and immediately alerted officials of the two districts who took immediate measures to shift people in low-lying areas and issued an alert. Irrigation engineer K Amruthavalli, camping in the area, said as the shutter was damaged completely repair work can be started only after releasing a major chunk of storage and it will take at least two days.

Though the dam is situated in Palakkad in Kerala, Tamil Nadu manages it and it is the major source of water for Coimbatore and other districts in the neighbouring state. After the snag, dam authorities were forced to open two remaining shutters to 10 cm each to prevent any damage to these shutters due to rising pressure.

Vande Bharat Express trains to get electric engine, Indian Railways to make major changes in network

The much-awaited Vande Bharat express train has completed its trials and is set to hit the tracks soon. However, a recent development reveals that the Indian Railways will have to make some major changes in its entire network as the Vande Bharat express train will be converted from diesel to an electric engine. This system has been implemented in many countries where high-speed passenger trains run. These countries include China, Japan, France, and South Africa. If the Railways plan to run Vande Bharat trains in its entire network, then major changes will have to be made in the whole network and more and more power will also be needed. The Vande Bharat train consumes double the electricity as the normal electric trains.

The existing overhead lines may find it difficult to meet the future demand for high-speed trains running simultaneously. Hence it has been decided to upgrade the overhead wires. Recently, the Railways floated a tender for a 1650 km track between Delhi and Mughalsarai for Rs 1,140 crore.

Oldest Constitution bench case likely to be concluded

The oldest pending case before a constitution bench in the country may finally be taken to conclusion, with the Supreme Court on Tuesday fixing a date to examine the 36-year-old case that involves the religious practice of excommunication in the Dawoodi Bohra community.

The excommunication of a member would result in social boycott, besides barring entry to places of worship.

A five-judge bench, led by justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, set down the 1986 case for a final hearing on October 11, asking all the parties to file their written submissions on the latest legal position and the proposed course of scrutiny as to whether the practice of excommunication in the Dawoodi Bohra community can continue as a “protected practice”.
