Avalanche in Chorabari Glacier triggers ice break near Kedarnath temple

An avalanche occurred in the Chorabari Glacier, located behind the world famous Kedarnath Dham, triggering snow fall near the holy temple. The Chorabari Glacier is located at a distance of about four km from the Kedarnath temple. The incident occurred between 4.30 and 5 pm on Thursday.

While no damage has been reported, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been rushed to the spot to monitor the situation. Along with this, the disaster management team of the state government has been asked to conduct a survey.

No relief for rain-hit Delhi as IMD issues yellow alert, schools shut in Noida, Gurugram

As heavy rains lashed the national capital for the second consecutive day on Thursday, it led to severe waterlogging in several areas and affected traffic movement on key roads across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also issued a 'yellow alert', cautioning people about moderate rain at most places in the city on Friday.

Rains are likely to lash the national capital on the weekend too. In view of the heavy rainfall, private schools (up to class 8) have been asked to remain closed in Noida and Gurugram on Friday.

'Bhagavad Gita' teaching: Karnataka govt announcement a premature move, says Education expert

The decision of the ruling BJP in Karnataka to include teachings of the Bhagavad Gita in schools and colleges from December has triggered a debate. Announcing it in the Assembly on Monday, Education Minister B.C. Nagesh stated that the teachings of the holy Hindu scripture would form a part of the `Moral Education` syllabus. "There is no proposal before the government to teach `Bhagavad Gita` to students along with the present syllabus as a special subject," he said.

Delhi University urges St Stephen’s College to follow govt rules for admission

University of Delhi has asserted that St Stephen’s College will have to follow the rules laid down by the government for admission, an official statement said. The move came a day after the college’s governing body decided to approach the Supreme Court over the issue.

Reacting to the college governing body’s decision, a senior varsity official stated that the university will not back down and will defend its admission policy. Furthermore, the governing body decided to challenge the recent Delhi High Court order on the admission procedure at the institution and seek “interim relief” to carry out this year’s admissions through an interview process for candidates of all categories.
