Relief for Anil Ambani in 'tax evasion' case; Bombay HC says no coercive action against him until November 17

In a relief for businessman Anil Ambani, the Bombay High Court on Monday stayed an Income Tax Department’s prosecution notice against the Reliance Group chairperson for non-disclosure of money under the Black Money Act and also directed against taking any coercive action against him till November 17.

The HC directed the I-T department not to take any coercive action against the embattled tycoon on a show-cause notice issued to him seeking to prosecute him under the Black Money Act, reported PTI.

Delhi HC declines to stay dismissal of Ishrat case probe officer

The Delhi High Court Monday declined to stay the order dismissing Satish Chandra Verma, a Gujarat cadre IPS officer who had assisted the SIT in its probe into the 2004 Ishrat Jahan alleged fake encounter case, a month before his scheduled retirement.

The bench of Justices Sanjeev Sachdeva and Tushar Rao Gedela, however, asked the Centre to file a reply within eight weeks to Verma’s plea challenging his dismissal.

He was dismissed from service on August 30, a month ahead of his scheduled retirement on September 30.

Tamil Nadu police warn of slapping NSA against those involved; Kannur cops raid 14 shops

Amid continuing incidents of Sangh Parivar activists’ properties being targeted in the wake of NIA raids against the Popular Front of India (PFI), the Tamil Nadu police on Sunday warned of slapping the stringent National Security Act against those indulging in such acts. A release from the office of DGP C Sylendra Babu said investigation is being held in connection with various incidents of explosive substances being hurled at the premises of the members of “some organisations”, and 250 people have been enquired so far.

Maharashtra govt cancels appointment of Aaditya Thackeray, 12 others as members of State Board for Wildlife

The Shinde-Fadnavis government in Maharashtra cancelled the appointments of 13 non-government members made by the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government on the State Board for Wildlife (SBWL). The list the members whose appointments have been cancelled included former environment minister Aaditya Thackeray, former minister of state Dattatraya Bharani, Congress legislator Dheeraj Deshmukh, representative of Eco pro-Institute, Anuj Khare, Vishwas Katdare, Bittu Sehgal, Kishor Rithe, Punam Dhanavate, Kundan Hate, Yadav Tarte-Patil, Suhas Waingankar and Rohidas Dagle.

The MVA government had reconstituted the SBWL in August 2020 and May 2021 with the appointment of non-government members as per section 6 of the Wildlife (Protection)Act 1972. The revenue and forest department has issued the government resolution on the cancellation of appointments of Aaditya and others on the SBWL.

Tamil Nadu Police warn culprits of action under NSA after attacks on BJP, RSS leaders

Following multiple attacks against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders in Tamil Nadu in the backdrop of arrests of Popular Front of India (PFI) members, the state police on Sunday warned that those involved in disturbing public peace would be booked under the National Security Act.

Multiple petrol bomb attacks were reported on premises of BJP, RSS leaders since Thursday — the day the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested 11 PFI members, including office-bearers, as part of a nationwide operation.The attacks were reported across Coimbatore, Pollachi, Ramanathapuram, Erode and Tambaram.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, state Director General of Police (DGP) Sylendra Babu said at least 250 suspects have been interrogated in connection with the attacks so far.
