Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday came down heavily on the unruly parliamentarians and said that MPs who disrupt Parliament proceedings should introspect.

"I hope the MPs who are in the habit of ripping apart democratic values will self-introspect on what they did in their term. Those who contributed positively to the Parliament will be remembered by all. But those members who caused disruptions will hardly be remembered. This budget session is an opportunity for repentance and to leave positive footprints. I urge all the MPs not to miss this opportunity and perform their best," he said at the beginning of the interim Budget session of Parliament.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Jananta Party over the contentious Chandigarh mayoral election results as he drew a parallel between Tuesday's events and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Godse on this day 76 years back.

Rahul Gandhi, who is currently leading his party's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Bihar, accused the BJP of subverting the democracy in the mayoral elections and said it was beyond imagination what the saffron party will do to remain in power at the Centre.

The Indian Navy, in collaboration with Seychelles Defence Forces and Sri Lanka Navy, successfully intercepted and rescued a hijacked vessel. The multilateral response was coordinated to address the hijacking of a Sri Lankan fishing vessel on January 27.

"In a coordinated multilateral response to the hijacking of a Sri Lankan fishing vessel, the Indian Navy, Seychelles Defence Forces and Sri Lanka Navy, successfully intercepted and rescued the vessel which was hijacked on January 27," the statement read.

The party also fielded Shafiqur Rahman Barq from the Sambhal Lok Sabha seat.
