Kerala Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has now reacted to fierce criticism over his remarks on the demise of late former Pakistan military dictator-turned-President Pervez Musharraf whom he described as “foe-turned-real force for peace” in his condolence message. "I was raised in an India where you are expected to speak kindly of people when they die. Musharraf was an implacable enemy and was responsible for Kargil War but he did work for peace with India, in his own interest, 2002-7. He was no friend but he saw strategic benefit in peace, as did we," Tharoor said in a tweet.

#Bihar: JD(U) Was Offered 17 Seats In 2019 Elections To Pull Put Of Nda, Reveals Prashant Kishor

Political analyst Prashant Kishor has said the Janata Dal (United) was offered 17 seats during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. 

Talking to reporters in Bihar's Gopalganj, Kishor said when the seats were allocated, it was decided the JD(U) would quit the NDA (National Democratic Alliance).

Further, Kishor slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and said the latter refused to pull out of the NDA after Narendra Modi returned as the Prime Minister for the second term.

#Judiciary: Supreme Court Issues Notice To Govt Over Blocking BBC's Documentary On Gujarat Riots

Supreme Court on Friday (February 3) issued a notice to the central government on pleas challenging its decision to block the BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots – “India: The Modi Question”. A bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna and MM Sundresh issued notices to the government and others on the pleas filed by veteran journalist N Ram, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra and activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan. The government has been asked to file its response within three weeks, and the matter has been posted for hearing in April.

Indian shares opened higher on Friday, aided by a rise in financials and optimism that the rate hike cycle may be near its end after global central banks hinted at inflation easing, while the ongoing rout in Adani group stock capped gains.

The Nifty 50 index rose 0.25% to 17,655, while the S&P BSE Sensex climbed 0.47% to 60,208.89, as of 9:52 am.

High weightage financials rose over 1% ahead of earnings of the country's largest lender State Bank of India and after clarification from life insurers SBI Life and HDFC Life, addressing investor concerns regarding the latest budget proposals.
