India receives third S-400 squadron from Russia, will hit deeper inside China, Pakistan

For India, which has to deal with two enemies on two fronts in the form of China and Pakistan, the delivery of the third S-400 squadron is an assurance against any attack from Pakistan.

According to the need or in the event of increasing tension from China, India can also shift its deployment from the western front to the eastern front. The first squadron of S-400 from Russia came to India in December 2021 and the second squadron in April 2022. Despite being caught up in the war against Ukraine, Russia delivered the third squadron in February 2023.

Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will be in CBI custody till March 4 for questioning, a Delhi court has ordered. Mr Sisodia was arrested yesterday in connection with alleged corruption in the now-withdrawn liquor policy of Delhi.

The agency told a Delhi court that Manish Sisodia has been giving evasive replies to their questions and failed to explain at least six contentious provisions in the liquor policy that were not part of the first draft. The agency contends that the changes were made at the behest of a liquor lobby in exchange for kickbacks to the tune of ₹ 30 crore.

Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Monday said a new variant of its aircraft ‘Hindustan 228-201 LW’ has been approved by the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA).

“This variant has maximum take-off weight of 5,695kg with 19 passenger capability. With this modification, the aircraft would fall in the Sub 5,700kg aircraft category,” HAL said.

It added that the new variant provides several operational benefits for operators such as reduced pilot qualification requirement enabling pilots with Commercial Pilot License to fly the aircraft, enhanced availability of pilot pool for the aircraft and reduced operational cost.

The Supreme Court on Monday said it will decide "once and for all" the legal issue of whether the earlier apex court judgement laying down procedures for the appointment of the Director General of Police (DGP) in states will also be applicable to Delhi and other cities.

The top court, hearing petitions challenging the appointment of senior IPS officer Rakesh Asthana as the Delhi Police Commissioner, said the pleas, so far as they relate to the appointment of Asthana, have become infructuous as the officer has superannuated.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in Chhattisgarh shared a clip of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's slip of tongue during a speech on the last day of his party's 85th plenary session in which he described 'satyagarh' as the route to "satta" (power).

Gandhi, however, immediately corrected it and said it means never leave the path of "satya" (truth).

Former minister and state BJP spokesperson Rajesh Munat tweeted the clip and asked Gandhi to learn the meaning, pronunciation and expression of 'satyagrah'.

Gandhi in his speech said, “Mahatma Gandhi talked about satyagrah. What is its meaning? Satyagrah means never leave the route to 'satta' (power)."
