#TMC: If Rahul Gandhi Is Disqualified, Why Not Modi For Hurting Sentiments Of Women: Abhishek Banerjee

Senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday asked if Rahul Gandhi can be disqualified for his comments about a community, then why similar action cannot be taken against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hurting the sentiments of women by his taunts against Mamata Banerjee.

The TMC national general secretary was speaking a rally at Shahid Minar Grounds here.

He also asked the party's legal cell to file a case against Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, seeking his disqualification from the House for "insulting" a woman minister from the tribal community.

#Punjab: Close To Catching Amritpal Singh: Police Tells High Court

Punjab government on Tuesday told the Punjab and Haryana High Court that they are close to catching radical preacher Amritpal Singh. Amritpal Singh has remained untraceable since a police crackdown against him and members of his 'Waris Punjab De' began in Punjab on March 18.

The court of Justice N S Shekhawat was hearing the habeas corpus petition filed by advocate Imaan Singh Khara, seeking the release of Amritpal Singh from alleged police custody.

The habeas corpus plea was recently filed by Mr Khara, claiming Amritpal Singh was in "illegal custody" of police.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why there was no investigation into the investment of people's retirement fund in the Adani group even after various allegations were levelled against the firm. Taking to Twitter, Gandhi said, "LIC's capital, to Adani! SBI's capital, to Adani! EPFO's capital too, to Adani! Why is public's retirement money being invested in Adani's companies even after 'Modani' exposed?". "Mr prime minister, no investigation, no answer! Why so much of fear," he asked in a tweet in Hindi.

A major political controversy erupted after Adani Group stocks took a beating on the bourses after US-based short seller Hindenburg Research made a litany of allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share-price manipulation, last month.

#Gangster Atiq Ahmed Safely Shifted To UP's Naini Jail, Court Hearing on Tuesday

Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday evening safely brought gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed to Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj amid tight security arrangements. Atiq was brought from Sabarmati jail in Gujarat and will be produced before a Prayagraj court on Tuesday.

Atiq Ahmed is the main accused in the murder case of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Raju Pal, which took place in 2005. He is named in more than 100 criminal cases, including the recent Umesh Pal murder case.

Atiq, a former Samajwadi Party MP from Phulpur, was shifted to Sabarmati jail following a Supreme Court order in 2019 after being accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and assault on a real estate businessman, Mohit Jaiswal, while in prison in Uttar Pradesh.
