#Wrestlers’ Protest: Delhi Court Seeks Status Report From Police Over FIRs Lodged Against WFI Chief

A Delhi court on Wednesday sought a status report from the city police over the FIRs registered against Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment charges.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjit Singh Jaspal issues notice to the Delhi Police over a plea moved by the wrestlers seeking monitoring of the investigation and recording of the statement of the alleged victims before the court.

The court directed the police to file the report by May 12 when it will further hear the matter.

#Pakistan: Imran Khan Supporters Storm Army HQ in Rawalpindi, Corps Commander’s House in Lahore; Situation Tense

After the arrest of former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday in a corruption case, his PTI supporters stormed the Army headquarters in Rawalpindi and Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore.

Khan’s supporters torched Gujranwala cantonment entrance. In Lahore, PTI workers gathered at Liberty Chowk and marched towards cantonment areas to protest outside Jinnah House, according to Pakistan daily Dawn.

The demonstrators burnt tyres and chanted slogans of anti-coalition government. Wives and family members of Army officers have posted pictures of violence on social media.

#China: Foreign Companies Worried After National Security Raids

A string of national security raids on consulting firms, which have exposed the dangers of conducting business during the rule of Chinese President Xi Jinping, has left foreign companies in China worried.

The American Chamber of Commerce’s president, Eric Zheng, expressed alarm over the claims that due diligence companies had been singled out by officials since their work is “essential to doing business in China.”

“Chinese authorities should more clearly delineate the areas in which companies can or cannot conduct such due diligence,” Zheng said in a statement.

“This would give foreign companies more confidence and enable them to comply with Chinese regulations,” he added.

#Mamata Banerjee's Veiled Dig At PM, 'One Without Knowing Uses Teleprompter'

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday took an indirect jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for using teleprompter for delivering speeches during election rallies. Without naming anyone, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo criticised the practice of using a teleprompter without understanding the topic for the sake of winning elections. 

"We should not think that during or for just winning elections, one without knowing uses a teleprompter for giving speeches. We should not think or for elections, and say that Tagore was born in Shantiniketan, or buy people for the sake of elections" said Mamata Banerjee.

#Women's Panel Summons Delhi Police For Failing To Arrest Brij Bhushan Singh in POCSO Case

Over the past several days, wrestlers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan, accused of sexual harassment.  

On Tuesday, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal issued a summons to Delhi Police for failing to arrest the accused person in connection with the two FIRs registered against him on April 28, pertaining to sexual harassment allegations, including violations under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Singh is accused of sexually harassing women wrestlers, including a minor. The wrestlers had gone to the Connaught Place police station on April 21 to file a complaint against him. However, the police did not register an FIR back then.
