Citing a report in The Indian Express, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh Tuesday said that "in a familiar pattern," two offshore Adani-linked funds, which appear to have been on the radar of Indian tax authorities since at least 2014, had no action taken against them, other than routine notices for information.

"Like SEBI, was the otherwise hyperactive Income Tax department also forced to sleep on the job during Mitr Kaal?" he wrote, reiterating the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Adani.

Olympic medal-winning wrestler Bajrang Punia on Monday slammed a retired IPS officer after he tweeted that the protesting wrestlers "will be shot if needed". Punia said that he would take the bullet right in his chest and asked Retired IPS Officer NC Asthana where to come. Punia's tweet in Hindi read, "This IPS officer is talking about shooting us. Brother we are standing at the front, tell me where to come to get shot… I swear that I will not show my back, I will take your bullet on my chest. That wish will be fulfilled if the circumstances demand. But for that, you need to be educated." The ex-IPS officer said that the police have the right to shoot under Article 129.

#Delhi HC seeks ED stand on plea by TMC leader Anubrata Mondal alleging "illegal" custody

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought the stand of the Enforcement Directorate on a plea by TMC leader Anubrata Mondal claiming his ongoing custody in jail in a money laundering case related to cattle smuggling in West Bengal is illegal.

His counsel contended there was no valid judicial order remanding him in judicial custody.

A bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Talwant Singh issued notice on the habeas corpus petition by Mondal and asked his lawyers to first show that the plea is maintainable.

#Arvind Kejriwal's "Law And Order" Swipe At Lt Governor Over Delhi Murder

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday urged Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena to take strict action over the murder of a minor girl in Shahbad Dairy here and said it was his responsibility to maintain law and order in the city. 

Taking to Twitter, Mr Kejriwal wrote, "A minor girl was brutally murdered in Delhi. This is very sad and unfortunate. The criminals have become fearless, there is no fear of the police. LG sir, law and order is your responsibility, do something."

Senior AAP leader Atishi also slammed the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) and said the Constitution has given the L-G the "responsibility of protecting people" of the Union Territory.

#Rupee Rises 6 Paise To 82.54 Against US Dollar

The rupee gained 6 paise to 82.54 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday, tracking positive trends in domestic and global markets as well as inflows of foreign funds.

The dollar index is trading almost flat at 104 level with forex traders awaiting an agreement on the US debt ceiling between US President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened stronger at 82.57 against the dollar and hit the highest level of 82.51. Later, it slipped to 82.54, registering a gain of 6 paise over its previous close.
